The Supervisor Engine II-Plus delivers non-blocking Layer 2 switching with basic Layer 3 and Layer 4 intelligent services to power resilient, multilayer switching solutions for converged data, voice, and video networks. It allows customers to deploy network-wide intelligent services, such as advanced quality of service (QoS), comprehensive security, and management with optimal control and resiliency.

All Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series PoE line cards can distinguish an IEEE or Cisco prestandard powered device from an unpowered network interface card (NIC) to help ensure that power is applied only when an appropriate device is connected.

The Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series offers a variety of GBIC- or SFP-enabled gigabit solutions for high-performance Gigabit Ethernet uplinks and server farm connectivity. The five GBIC- or SFP-enabled gigabit line card options for the Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series include 2-, 6-, 18-, and 48-port versions.

The dual input 4200 WAC power supply is designed to accept either 100V AC circuits or 200V AC circuits. Customer planning large scale PoE deployments can use the dual inputs in the 200V AC configuration. Customers planning for the future can deploy the 4200W power supply with a single 100V circuit.

Cisco Catalyst 4500-X Series Switch (Figure 1) is a fixed aggregation switch that delivers best-in-class scalability, simplified network virtualization, and integrated network services for space-constrained environments in campus networks. It meets business growth objectives with unprecedented scalability, simplifies network virtualization with support for one-to-many (Cisco Easy Virtual Networks [EVN]) and many-to-one (Virtual Switching System [VSS]) virtual networks, and enables emerging applications by integrating many network services.

The Cisco Catalyst 4500E Supervisor Engine 8-E (Figure 1) is the next generation of enterprise-class switching engine that provides full convergence between wired and wireless networks on a single platform. This new Cisco® Unified Access Data Plane (UADP) application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) powers the wireless convergence and helps enable uniform wired-wireless policy enforcement, application visibility, flexibility, and application optimization. The new Cisco Catalyst 4500E Supervisor Engine 8-E is an enterprise-class, access and aggregation supervisor engine designed to provide up to 928 Gbps of wired access per system with an E-Series chassis. The supervisor also supports up to 20 Gbps of wireless termination in a controller-less unified access deployment. Cisco Catalyst 4500E Supervisor Engine 8-E provides 48 Gbps per slot with Flexible NetFlow (FNF), integrated Wireshark, and advanced security, combined with reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) and excellent investment protection. These capabilities, along with eight 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks and 10/100/1000 Power over Ethernet (PoE), PoE Plus (PoEP), and Cisco Universal PoE (UPoE) ports, make this supervisor engine the leading Cisco Unified Access supervisor engine in the Cisco Catalyst Family. Supervisor Engine 8-E is built with price-performance aggregation deployments in mind, helping to enable denser Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet fiber deployments with enterprise-class aggregation functions. Supervisor Engine 8-E facilitates user experiences for enterprise, public sector, mid-market, and commercial customer business-critical applications.

Today’s data centers are increasingly filled with dense rack-mount and blade servers that host powerful multicore processors. The rapid increase in in-rack computing density and the increasing use of virtualization software combine to accelerate the demand for 10 Gigabit Ethernet and consolidated I/O: applications for which the Cisco Nexus® 5000 Series Switches are an excellent match. With low latency and choice of front-to-back or back-to-front cooling, copper or fiber access ports, and rear-facing data ports, the Cisco Nexus 5000 Series is designed for a broad range of physical, virtual, storage access, and high-performance computing environments, thus giving customers the flexibility to meet and scale their data center requirements in a gradual manner and at a pace that aligns with their business objectives. The switch series, using cut-through architecture, supports line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet on all ports while maintaining consistently low latency independent of packet size and services enabled. It supports a set of network technologies known collectively as Data Center Bridging (DCB) that increases the reliability, efficiency, and scalability of Ethernet networks. These features allow the switches to support multiple traffic classes over a lossless Ethernet fabric, thus enabling consolidation of LAN, SAN, and cluster environments. Its ability to connect Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) to native Fibre Channel protects existing storage system investments while dramatically simplifying in-rack cabling.
